Overview

Maitland Hospital is a major regional healthcare facility serving the city of Maitland and surrounding communities in the Hunter Valley region of NSW. With approximately 350 beds, the new Maitland Hospital opened in January 2022 following a $470 million development, replacing the older hospital with state-of-the-art infrastructure and significantly enhanced capabilities. Operating under Hunter New England Local Health District, the hospital provides comprehensive services including emergency care, intensive care, surgery, medicine, cardiology, oncology, maternity, pediatrics, mental health, and rehabilitation. The facility serves a rapidly growing population of approximately 80,000 people in Maitland and many more across the broader Hunter region. The new Maitland Hospital features advanced digital infrastructure, comprehensive diagnostic services, and enhanced outpatient facilities. The hospital maintains strong teaching affiliations with the University of Newcastle and other institutions, contributing to healthcare workforce development. Maitland Hospital plays a vital role in the Hunter region’s healthcare network, providing tertiary-level services to one of NSW’s fastest-growing regional centers while reducing pressure on John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle.
