Overview

Footscray Hospital is a major metropolitan healthcare facility serving Melbourne’s diverse western suburbs. With approximately 290 beds, the hospital provides comprehensive services including emergency care, intensive care, surgery, medicine, cardiology, cancer care, maternity, pediatrics, mental health, and rehabilitation. Operating under Western Health, Footscray Hospital serves one of Melbourne’s most culturally diverse and rapidly growing regions. The facility maintains strong teaching affiliations with the University of Melbourne and Victoria University. Footscray Hospital is currently in transition, with construction underway on a new $1.5 billion Footscray Hospital scheduled to open in 2025, which will significantly expand capacity to approximately 504 beds. The hospital offers interpreter services in over 100 languages and culturally responsive care programs to address the needs of its multicultural community. Footscray Hospital plays a vital role in providing accessible tertiary-level healthcare to Melbourne’s western suburbs, with services designed to meet the needs of a diverse population that includes significant refugee and new migrant communities alongside established neighborhoods with complex socioeconomic challenges.
