Roma Hospital is a rural healthcare facility serving the township of Roma and surrounding communities in Queensland’s Western Downs region. With approximately 60 beds, the recently redeveloped hospital provides a range of services including emergency care, general medicine, surgery, obstetrics, pediatrics, and allied health. Operating as part of the South West Hospital and Health Service, the facility offers 24-hour emergency care, general surgery, maternity services, dialysis, chemotherapy, and specialist outpatient clinics. Located approximately 480 kilometers west of Brisbane, Roma Hospital serves as the regional referral center for the Maranoa and surrounds with a catchment population of around 15,000 people across this vast agricultural and resources region. The hospital underwent complete redevelopment, opening a new facility in 2020 with expanded services and modern infrastructure to better meet the healthcare needs of southwest Queensland. The facility plays a crucial role in providing comprehensive rural healthcare, reducing the need for patient transfers to Brisbane for many common procedures while supporting surrounding smaller facilities.
