Overview:

A two-day course focused on developing advanced skills in managing the deteriorating patient and cardiac arrest. Designed for healthcare professionals who are expected to apply these skills as part of their typical clinical duties, or who are expected to teach them on a regular basis.

Appropriate candidates include paramedics, doctors and nurses working in critical care sphere, or in the resuscitation /medical emergency team.

 

Curricula:

  • Recognition, assessment and management of the deteriorating patient using a structured ABCDE approach (aiming to prevent cardiac arrest)
  • Treat cardiac and/or respiratory arrest, including manual defibrillation
  • Management of life-threatening arrhythmias
  • Preparing and planning for post-resuscitation care
  • Care for the deteriorating patient, or patient in cardiac and/or respiratory arrest in special circumstances such as asthma, anaphylaxis, and pregnancy
  • Lead a team, work as a team member, and use structured communication skills including effective handover procedure
  • Consideration for end-of-life decision making

Prerequisites

 

** Please note that completing ALS1 is not a prerequisite for ALS2 courses **

Catering is provided throughout the course. We can cater for a range of dietary requirements. Please advise of dietary requirements when enrolling for the course.

 

Dress

Neat casual clothing and enclosed footwear suitable for safe practice of the skills including hands-on CPR.
